Stage & Street grew form a home business. As a well known accomplished seamstress and designer, Evelyn Davie was called upon to rescue a local dance school in need of costumes for a production. Although Davie had been involved with theatre costuming for years, this opened the door to the world of dance, and the desperate need for supplies in Northern Ontario.
Davie had known about dance from some years earlier when, her daughter had experienced the frustration of trying to get supplies. Now seeing the broader picture of how not only were the class needs a challenge, but completing the look for costuming was almost impossible. The decision was made to combine all skills and open a retail store to serve the needs of dancers and actors.
Stage & Street has been awarded many times for their costume designs. Davie is pleased to support dancers this way. Hence, the new motto for the store was created, "Omnis Prospero Adificarimus"- meaning - For others to succeed and prosper- we build, we create.
Many of our patrons have been with us for years, and it has been a pleasure to assist everyone with their purchases. A great deal of studying and research has been taken to provide our customers with quality products. Davie's understanding of textiles, line, design, and construction give her an edge in clothing while knowing what the garment needs to do. These skills have expanded the demand for other costuming needs, including, skating, synchronized swimming, cross country skiing, and body builders posing suits.
